When it comes to baking, our slogan, “A Simpler Time Remembered” is at the heart of every item we offer. We pride ourselves on being minimalists – 90% percent of our bread selections are vegan because every loaf starts with four basic ingredients: flour, water, yeast, and salt. Simple as nature intended.
Our menu changes daily so follow us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter or subscribe to our newsletter to see what’s baking. Selections are available in store while supplies last.
The Black Walnut is a dream come true for master baker Christian Michalowski. He began baking artisan bread as a hobby and quickly discovered an insatiable need to knead.
Christian’s passion is fueled by sweet memories of going to a neighborhood bakery as a child. It was a Sunday ritual to walk with his grandparents to the magical store filled with the delicious aroma of hot, fresh bread. The Black Walnut is a step back in time that nourishes the body and soul.
Making artisan bread at the Black Walnut is about more than combining flour, water, yeast, and salt. It is about creating wholesome family traditions. When Christian’s daughter was young they would gather black walnuts from the tree in front of their house to make homemade Black Walnut Bread. Now, their treasured family recipe is available at the Black Walnut in the heart of the historic Village Center in East Hampton, CT.
Our bodies were never designed to ingest synthetic lab-derived preservatives. The Black Walnut mantra to quality and wholesomeness starts with the exclusivity of our flour choice. We only use King Arthur flour. Never bleached, never bromated. Every item is made from scratch by hand with love. Call us to see what’s baking!
